Will be at 141 Greenwich High Road, London, SE at 1.30pm on Saturday 18th March.
The venue is almost next to the mainline railway station and close to the A2.
Greenwich is well worth a visit and has many attractions, including the historic clipper ship 'Cutty Sark', Greenwich Observatory (of GMT fame), several markets and even the Millennium Dome!
All 'Forum' meetings include an open competition (with prizes) for displays of finds, single coins and single artefacts. There is always a raffle and tea, coffee, sandwiches and cakes are on sale.
You do not have to be a member to attend, if you are visiting London when we are meeting, you will be sure of a warm welcome if you visit with us.
Last years event was cancelled because the main organisers all had health problems at the same time. Everyone involved was very dissapointed and felt they had let the hobby down. To make sure this didn't happen again at the November meeting of the Forum Philipe Wainwright Chair of the Wessex club pledged his club to make sure that the event would 'happen' regardless of individual circumstances.
So our Millennium fair will be the best yet! Simply an event not to be missed!
These are just some of the content: Competitions 'The Les Clayton Cup' for the best display no larger than 2'6" square, 'The Philipe Wainwright Trophy' for the best artefact under 300 years old, 'The FID Cup' for the best coin and The 'Leisure Promotions Plaque' for the best banner displayed by a metal detecting club. All these catagories carry prizes down to at least 6th place. As usual there will be a 'Grand Raffle' with lots of prizes. There will be a refreshment bar in the hall and there is a 'Pub' next door. There will be trade stands not only for metal detecting but from the antiquites world, book trade and others. There is adequate space for clubs and individuals to exhibit and Divers, Bottle Collectors, local and family history societies, aircraft recovery groups will all be invited. Many experts will be on hand who can identify finds. As we move into a new Millenium we want to celebrate all that has been recovered from the past and encourage people to continue to recover, restore and display far into the distant future. In the afternoon there will be an illustrated talk on things that have been found, and a short period set aside for those who want to discuss any detecting related topics. This is the event of the year, the one not to be missed. The venue is at Greenwich Community Centre, 141, Greenwich High Road, London SE.
