Saturday 21st March 1998 was the first full meeting of the newly formed 'FORUM' which saw clubs, traders and individuals meet together and talk about the future of the hobby, exchange ideas, elect a committee for 1998 - 1999 and plan the conference that will take place at Greenwich on the 1st Saturday in June. When representatives gathered for refreshments the talk was of a new future and a new
beginning for the hobby. The finds competition and raffle added to what everyone present
agreed was 'something special' in the continuing story of metal detecting. and the 'forum' has grown in size and maturity. With the emphasis being placed on detectorists meeting together not just to discuss the hobby but also to have the opportunity to get together informally in a club atmosphere. Rather than act for the hobby (except under extreme circumstances), the 'forum' will recommend actions to the existing organisations, for example DIG or FID. In that way anybody can attend without feeling they are committing to actions they may not fully support, yet at the same time have their say in the discussion. |
